Kernel >=2.6.8 doesn't support Philips webcams... we all know why. Even though that, we could use the latest pwc/pwcx version instead of the obsolete ones... (we have version 8.x in portage instead of 9.x). I'd like to ask the REMOVAL of usb-pwcx as it DOES NOT WORK (at least) with gcc >=3.4. The sources that would replace usb-pwcx are the following:

My mistake... the codes I've explicited are to be compiled inside the kernel. I'd like to ask the gentoo kernel team if it would be possible to add these sources in the next release of the kernel.

No, get the upstream kernel maintainer to take the patch.

So far _no one_ has sent him a patch, even though he has asked for one.

Do that, and then all distros benifit.

I alredy read that the kernel maintainer refused to use it because of the fact that this code is unmaintained. What to do?

Of course it must be maintained, why would you expect the USB maintainer to 
to accept code that isn't going to be supported over time?  Gentoo has the
same requirement, it's normal.

If you are willing to do this, great, submit the patch.  If not, find someone
who is.

Trust me, all the USB kernel maintainer wants, is someone who will be willing to
step up and maintain the driver.  He is a reasonable person, for the most
part :)

Anyway, this is not a gentoo specific thing.
