not sure if this is amd64-related or not
> 2. re-emerge/update thunderbird or firefox (emerge doesn't finish configuring the newly-installed app)
can we get a copy&paste of the error? 'emerge info' would also be helpful
i can't confirm this and i'm on a amd64 machine too...
There is no error output! It does not quit some program it runs. Its just STUCK. It doesn't return any error output nor does it exit itself (return to the console). $ emerge info Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3 Portage 2.0.51-r2 (default-amd64-2004.0, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.8-gentoo-r4 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r4 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.4.26 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r5 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-pipe -O3" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="gcc3" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/share/config:/usr/kde/3.3/env:/usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-pipe -O3" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache distlocks" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.linux.ee/pub/gentoo/distfiles/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cjk crypt cups directfb divx4linux dmx encode esd flac foomaticdb gdbm gif gimpprint gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml imlib ithreads jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod mng motif mozilla mpeg multilib ncurses nls nogcj objc oggvorbis opengl oss perl pic png postgres ppds python quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl svg tcltk tcpd theora threads truetype unicode wmf xml xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid zlib" anyway, as i'm using thunderbird and firefox with "-gtk2" and downgraded to gtk+-2.4.4 just to avoid future problems, i'm really not in the mood nor do i have the time to re-emerge gtk+-2.4.9-r1 and thunderbird or firefox. Sorry guys. Hope you can find the bug. could you do a strace and attach it here? that would be great. otherwise, there's no way to fix this since i can't repoduce it . How did this bug ever get to a state of being forgotten? :S Anyway i think the problem is long gone, closing. |
