i'll consider it, the problem is that there are security issues in 1.2b, see bug #68436 i have the same problem here after switching from 1.2beta to 1.3.1 It must print something in syslog. I've tested and reported: Nov 14 10:11:14 alin modem_run[13148]: modem_run version 1.3.1 started by root uid 0 Nov 14 10:11:26 alin modem_run[13150]: modem_run version 1.3.1 started by root uid 0 Nov 14 10:11:26 alin modem_run[13150]: No SpeedTouch USB found. geez what a surprise :) Please look in syslog and post here the output. On my system there was nothing in the syslog. I have now upgraded to kernel 2.6.9 (from 2.4.27), had to compile all usb stuff as modules and use a older firmware to get modem_run loading the firmware. But speedtouch is less stable than my previous combination (kernel 2.4.x + latest firmware + speedtouch-1.2.x) xming sorry to hear that. however, I cannot let set unstable on 1.3 given the fact that 1.2 has security issues (see comment #1). either you work with me to solve the problems or you are on your own installing the 1.2b version from sources. first, redirect all syslog output to a console (like *.* /dev/tty12); then run one more time modem_run -v 2. you really don't have any "modem_run" log line? I look at main function in modem_run.c and according to that you must see at least first line from comment #3 ! of course I see a line like this, but that's all Nov 14 10:11:14 alin modem_run[13148]: modem_run version 1.3.1 started by root uid 0 And thanks for your help, I know where the logs go, outputting to console is the last thing that I want (the thing is headless :). As I said in #4, apprently I need to, IMHO, use an older firmware, I am not the only one with this problem, and this is not Gentoo specific (links in #1). I am connected using 1.3.1, and it is very unstable, due to the 2.6.9 usbcore IMO, when loosing connectivity to the modem, there is no way to reload the firmware like 1.2beta. And I mean noway by stopping hotplug, rmmod speedtch umount /proc/bus/usb, rmmod *hci, usbcore, unplug the modem, .... xming is there a way to solve this bug? this bug is a dead end. closing it |
