Description David Flogeras 2019-07-17 11:51:40 UTC
Today I noticed that in ncurses:6 the USE=tinfo flag is going away (after my latest eix-sync with the tree). Out of curiosity I ran "equery uses ncurses", and of course it no longer lists it because by default it is showing slot 0 by default. I then ran "equery uses ncurses:5" because USE=tinfo is still present for that slot and it does not show up in the results.

Running the same test on another machine that has not yet been synced (ie. USE=tinfo is present in both :0 and :5 slots) and it lists tinfo in both slots' results as expected.

Reproducible: Always

I forgot, this is with gentoolkit-0.4.2-r1 (amd64 stable) and here's by emerge --info

Comment 2 Ben Kohler gentoo-dev 2019-07-17 12:03:27 UTC
The flag is forced on. The issue here is that forced or masked flags are not shown in equery-u output.

I suspect this was originally by design to hide things not changeable by users (easily), but I too would prefer that it still show these flags, maybe with some extra annotation showing the force/mask.

To Ben

However equery hasuse (I'd say inconsistenly) does register the flag. For example on my machine

# equery hasuse opencv
[IP-] [  ] media-libs/mlt-6.16.0-r2:0
[IP-] [  ] media-video/vlc-3.0.8:0/5-9

but subsequent

#  equery uses mlt

does not show opencv amongs the flags. Which confused me a lot.

To add to the confusion, here is the flag again

# equery depends opencv

media-libs/mlt-6.16.0-r2 (opencv ? >=media-libs/opencv-3.2.0)
