There is an update to version 5.11.29. It is in "testing" status, which means out of beta and feature freeze mode.

Existing UniFi controllers must be on one of the following versions in order to upgrade directly to this version:
5.11.28 and earlier 5.11.x versions.
5.10.25 and earlier 5.10.x versions.
5.9.33 and earlier 5.9.x versions.
5.8.30 and earlier 5.8.x versions.
5.7.28 and earlier 5.7.x versions.
5.6.42 and earlier 5.6.x versions.

Java 8 must be installed on the system hosting the controller software. Java 9 and later are not yet supported.

Currently we only support MongoDB 3.4. We're working on updating support before end of life this fall.

I have tested with dev-java/icedtea-3.12.0 and dev-java/icedtea-bin-3.12.0 and both works.

Also, I have tested with dev-db/mongodb-3.6.8 which seems to work in spite of the fact that the specifically say only 3.4x versions are supported. I could not install dev-db/mongodb-3.4.16 due to incompatibility with current openssl. 

Another important issue is that /etc/ssl/certs/java/cacerts must exist for Unifi to work.
