This test failed for me as well. I traced the failure to the "-fPIC" flag that the ebuild adds. Once that flag is removed the ebuild builds successfully. Patch removing -fPIC
This patch works on x86 to allow the test to pass. I do not have other
platforms, specifically HPPA to try it on.
-fPIC is required for the shared library to be built correctly...
