Bug 683644 – KDE Plasma 5.14.5 will not start over tigerVNC

I didn't get any responses.  I have tried everything I can think of, and couldn't find any assistance after several hours of google-searching.

KDE simply doesn't start through my tigervnc setup (set up as per the wiki): https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/TigerVNC

The weird thing is after piping it through vglrun, I get a black screen without all the pop-up errors I mention in the post above, but it does appear to be an active X session -- just without plasma running.  I know this because I added a "xterm" & after my "startkde &".  The xterm runs, and I can start other X applications, and even KDE applications... but no kicker, no wallpaper, no desktop of any kind -- AND, the session is supposed to be 1280x1024, but looks to be no bigger than 1024x768.  If run plain old "startkde &", then it does start a window that is 1920x1080, but after closing the errors, it drops back down to that same 1024x768 X session.

The other interesting thing is that twm and lxde start up just fine.  It is only KDE Plasma that won't work.


I'm not seeing any strange output in the log files, so I have nothing else to go on.

This system does use an NVIDA graphics card, but I cannot think of why that should matter -- especially after piping it through vglrun...

A lot has changed since 5.14.5 - please re-open if this is reproduced with an up to date version of Plasma in arch or ~arch.
