Occurs when the mounted core system on an SSD. For mounted core system on HD reboot and shutdown work OK. /etc/init.d/dmeventd
possible replacement for stock Gentoo's broken /etc/init.d/dmeventd openrc init (right in the Gentoo script, it says, basically "# TODO: implement" :P)
For me this made a really, really big difference. A lot bigger than I expected, straight from 'what on earth is wrong with this thing?!' to 'amazing!'
I have stuff in nonstandard boot-levels and injected additional dependencies from conf.d, however, so ... your mileage really will probably vary. Also please make a backup before trying, no promises it won't eat your doctoral thesis or w/e.

/etc/init.d/dmeventd
Here's the latest and greatest, I think the original script developed a problem some months ago.... tbh can't really remember or be bothered to check. What I do recall is that I made this change for what I thought at the time was a good reason :P
With lvm2-2.02.188-r2 I have not had startup/shutdown problems, but on the last several updates or recompiles, needrestart shows dmeventd, but rc-service says it's stopped, and stopping or restarting it fails (it actually IS running.) With the latest /etc/init.d/dmeventd attached, It now restarts properly, and status correctly shows it is running. |
