Summary: emerge gnome-libs fails on libiconv issues
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: Joseph M. Hinkle <jos_hinkle>
Component: [OLD] GNOMEAssignee: Gentoo Linux Gnome Desktop Team <gnome>

Description Joseph M. Hinkle 2004-10-13 01:27:29 UTC
emerge gnome-libs (needed by "grass" GIS application) fails:

./.libs/libgnome.so: undefined reference to `libiconv_open'
./.libs/libgnome.so: undefined reference to `libiconv'

libiconv is part of glibc. Separately emerging libiconv is discouraged and at this point is masked.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gnome-libs
2.
3.

Actual Results:
./.libs/libgnome.so: undefined reference to `libiconv_open'
./.libs/libgnome.so: undefined reference to `libiconv'

and

!!! ERROR: gnome-base/gnome-libs-1.4.2 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 69, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

USE="-nls -apm -gpm -spell doc java tcltk postgres mmx sse -kde -arts -alsa -oss"

Expected Results:
It should have successfully emerged gnome-libs

why is every freaking bug coming without 'emerge info' while it is in the bugreport form ?

& post some more output, please, please be verbose... we are not sensing problems here.

Spurious /usr/local/include/iconv.h discovered without a /usr/local/lib/libiconv.so
