you're running a stable system but tried an unstable baselayout that baselayout no longer includes sysvinit with it ... sounds like you didnt emerge sysvinit which provides shutdown/init/reboot/etc... OK, merging an unstable baselayout (that did not exist last night) fixed the issue. However the 1.9 series of baselayout included sysvinit with it. |
I merged baselayout 1.10.4 so that i could use gensplash and then i was unable to halt, reboot, shutdown, or boot into my system. I had to use the livecd to downgrade to my previous version of baselayout. localhost root # ls -l /sbin/shutdown ls: /sbin/shutdown: No such file or directory Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~x86 emerge baselayout 2.etc-update 3.reboot Actual Results: localhost root # reboot bash: reboot: command not found Additionally when I hit the power button and turn it back on, After the kernel detects all my hardware init is not executed, instead it just drops me into a root shell. Expected Results: Installed proper tools for booting ect.
