It's apparently a parallel build problem. I did ebuild /usr/portage/dev-qt/qtwebkit/qtwebkit-5.212.0_pre20180120.ebuild compile like 20 times and eventually it compiled. MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge =dev-qt/qtwebkit-5.212.0_pre20180120 works. IIRC similar trouble afflicted chromium and both qtwebkit slots here. My gtkwebkit didn't seem to have a problem, but check out: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8254784.html?sid=adcc500e38e37e869c2f80cf39686683. Perhaps something changed in ninja to make parallel building RAM hungrier than before? Yeah, this seems like a memory thing - I just ran into it when I was building this and it started eating up my RAM really quickly and failed when it ran out. I have 32GB of RAM, but was using about half of it with other stuff, so I tried closing a bunch of stuff and emerging it again. It seems to have peaked at about 20GB used by the build processes, but didn't overload me this time and has (at least for now) calmed down. It is very likely a memory thing. The "subcommand failed" is caused (on my side) by the kernel oom killer, which kills one "cc1plus" process. So the resulting failed-to-compile source file is every time a different one and does not contain a real mistake. I'll try MAKEOPTS="-j1" too. (In reply to Martin Dummer from comment #6) > I'll try MAKEOPTS="-j1" too. this has worked for me. (In reply to Martin Dummer from comment #7) > (In reply to Martin Dummer from comment #6) > > > > I'll try MAKEOPTS="-j1" too. > > this has worked for me. It doesn't work for me. I'm beginning to hate this ebuild, its just burning CPU cycles and never finishes. So indeed the build fails with j1. (In reply to André Terpstra from comment #9) > I am sorry for the confusion, but I changed back MAKEOPTS after compilation. > So indeed the build fails with j1. Are you in the correct bug, I wonder? :] This is about 'qtwebkit', which is masked, and will be removed from the Gentoo ebuild repository in approximately one week from now. Maybe you're dealing with 'qtwebengine'? |
