mail-client/mail-notification-0.7.0 gmail module missing info

can we add a ewarn, that gmail is disabled, because of license-issue ...
Comment 1 Jonathan Hernández Velasco 2004-10-07 09:43:25 UTC
I would like a gmail enabled mail-notification, accordingly with:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62100#c15

what do you think about?
Comment 2 Andrej Kacian (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-07 14:20:27 UTC
Ok, I have asked around, and current policy towards libgmail is that only gmail-supporting packages with an explicit maintainer are accepted into portage. I do not use mail-notification, it's useless to me, therefore I am not willing to maintain it.

Anyone from net-mail willing to take maintainership of this one?
Comment 3 Daniel Webert 2004-10-07 22:21:44 UTC
as far as i tested it, mail-notification does not need libgmail, just libsoup - but the license-issue still exists with support for gmail-related-software ... i think w/ a maintainers-head-on-the-plate - see libgmail - is a good solution ... - and at the end, it is 'just' a mail-notifier w/ the intention of reading/notifing mail, not like gmail-fs which use gmail in a different way :)
Comment 4 Paolo 2004-10-11 05:35:56 UTC
I think that the ebuild should NOT install Gmail support in default behaviour, but should allow the user to specify that he want it, and so compile it.
Comment 5 Jonathan Hernández Velasco 2004-10-27 18:31:53 UTC
so...a USE flag gmail would be the proper solution?
Comment 6 alex f 2004-10-31 08:44:25 UTC
See Bug #58543 for new version including support for gmail via USE flag
Comment 7 Andrej Kacian (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-11-24 00:50:50 UTC
As 0.8.1 is now including gmail support, I'm closing this one.
