The latest available pandoc version in the official Gentoo repositories (including also unstable versions) is 1.19.2.1-r1, while the latest downloadable version liked on their website is 2.2.1: https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/releases/tag/2.2.1 .
The latest version available in the Gentoo repositories in particular is missing some desirable features present in the latest version, such as producing 16:9 slides using beamer.
The current version available in the repositories should at least be updated to a more recent one.
