Bug 660678

Summary: Samba Guide says one must install net-print/cups with USE="ppds", but cups doesn't have that USE flag
Product: Websites Reporter: Chris Slycord <cslycord>
Component: WikiAssignee: Gentoo Wiki Team <wiki>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: normal

Description Chris Slycord 2018-07-08 02:05:45 UTC
Under the "Requirements" section, it states-
"The following software will be needed:

net-fs/samba
net-print/cups (built with the ppds USE flag)"

Under "Emerging Samba" -
"First, add ppds to your USE flags to make sure that when CUPS is built, it has proper foomatic support:
[code]root #echo "net-print/cups ppds" >> /etc/portage/package.use[/code"

net-print/cups no longer has a ppds USE flag.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Samba/Guide
2. See that it asks you to set USE="ppds" for net-print/cups
3. Check output of "equery uses net-print/cups" and see that it doesn't have USE=ppds
Actual Results:
The wiki refers to a USE flag for cups that it doesn't use/provide

Expected Results:
The wiki to only refer to valid setups/USE flags and to allow one to properly set up samba with cups.

It's not clear what packages and USE flag combinations provide what was previously given with setting USE=ppds for cups.

Most wiki pages are editable by anyone, including you.

The protected ones are namespaced by a colon. E.g. Handbook:AMD64

If you find an error which is related to the wiki running properly, please report it here.

If you find an error in the text of a page, please edit it yourself or open a Discussion on that page.

Chris, thank you for the bug. Most of the content of the wiki is editable by the community. The Samba guide you mentioned is open for edits. Simply create an account and fix anything you see that's incorrect...

Brian is right, Bugzilla is not used for documentation suggestions for content on the wiki. It is only used to report specific issues concerning the infrastructure elements of the wiki.

That said, we hope you update the article.
