need more information: emerge info(should always be included, read bug report guidelines) try running from console and see if there are more verbose error messages I am sorry, this is only my second bug report. Hopefully this is the information you need. I again apologize. emerge info Portage 2.0.51_rc7 (default-linux/amd64/gcc34-2004.2, gcc-3.4.2, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.8-gentoo-r5 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r5 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r5 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O3 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/share/config:/usr/kde/3.3/env:/usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache distlocks" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://open-systems.ufl.edu/mirrors/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/bmg-main" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa amd64 apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups dvd encode esd fam foomaticdb ftp gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 gtkhtml imlib java jpeg libg++ libwww mikmod motif mozilla mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl tcltk tcpd tiff truetype usb xml2 xmms xprint xv zlib" Output from time-admin in console (identical from other tools): (time-admin:22822): GConf-CRITICAL **: file gconf-client.c: line 1503 (gconf_client_get_bool): assertion `err == NULL || *err == NULL' failed (time-admin:22822): GConf-CRITICAL **: file gconf-client.c: line 1467 (gconf_client_get_string): assertion `err == NULL || *err == NULL' failed I have exactly the same problem, also on ~amd64. Maybe it's platform specific I also found out that the programs (network-admin, services-admin, ...) segfault in a perl process: # dmesg perl[14520]: segfault at ffffffff95ec7070 rip 0000002a95e453f0 rsp 0000007fbffff158 error 4 Hope it helps probably amd64 specific *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 66864 *** wrong thingy *** Bug 66926 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** i think i was planning to reassign .. here it goes It probably doesn't have to do with password entry, as it crashes in the same fashion (without asking for a password) if you start it as root. This is probably related to bug #17880, which I recently patched. Could amd64 please test/confirm? works now, thanks! |
