By setting CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO=y the kernel sources are blown up from about 1.7 GB to over 7 GB which is very ugly if you're trying to build a small system. 
As far as I see this option enabled is only useful for a few. 
So a default CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO=n would be better

This is disabled by default on all arches except ppc64le, are you a ppc64le user?
