Summary: Existance of db-1.85-r2 + explicit dependencies on db-1.85-r1 = endless upgrade cycles

Description Gian-Carlo Pascutto 2004-09-25 01:52:03 UTC
A lot of ebuilds seem to explicitly depend on libdb-1.85-r1. However, there is a libdb-1.85-r2 package. As a result, any system depending on an affected package will end up upgrading/downgrading libdb-1.85 on each emerge upgrade.

Here are the current offenders I found:

net-www/apache-1.3.31
sys-libs/db-3.3.11
net-analyzer/dsniff-2.3
profiles/(default-macos-10.x)
sys-libs/db-3.2.9
sys-libs/gdbm-1.8.0
sys-libs/pam-0.75
sys-libs/pam-0.77

Some of the latest -r's on those may have fixed it.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Expected Results:
Upgrading-downgrading constantly is both pointless and annoying, so it should be
avoided.

I will fix both db packages, but the other packages are not my responsibility (neither is db-1.85*)
