unison version 2.51.2 is available
(the new version does not allow to sync with an older version! ...)
the code repository was moved to github.

in the ebuild i had to change SRC_URI to

https://github.com/bcpierce00/unison/archive/v${PV}.tar.gz

and remove the Makefile-dep patch.

There is a PR awaiting heroxbd's review at https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/9173 . Because slotting in v2.48's ebuild has some problems, it also involves bumping eselect-unison.
