Description Thomas Weidner 2004-09-24 04:30:33 UTC
Hi,

i upgraded xorg-x11 from 6.8.0 to 6.8.0-r1. After this,my fluxbox would not start, but seems to hang during startup. strace gave the following:
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, NULL)        = 1 (in [3])
read(3, "\1\0\343\376\0\0\0\0\0\0\317\225*\0\0\0\320P\361\0\0\0"..., 32) = 32
writev(3, [{"1\0\v\0\1\0#\0", 8}, {"*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-JISX0208.198"..., 35}, {
"\0", 1}], 3) = 44
read(3, 0x7fbfffe2b0, 32)               = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavai
lable)
select(4, [3], NULL, NULL, NULL) = ? ERESTARTNOHAND (To be restarted)
+++ killed by SIGKILL +++

File Descriptor 3 is the socket to the X server. fluxbox seems to be in an endless loop always trying these few lines. The corresponding X server has nearly 100% cpu usage during this, but it drops back to normal when i kill fluxbox.

Latest Fluxbox CVS (20040-9-24). Nvidia Geforce 5200 using the nvidia propitary driver. as a notice with OpenBox everything works fine,but the same fluxbox version also worked fine wine xorg-x11-6.8.0, so i assumed it's xorg's fault.
Comment 3 Ciaran McCreesh 2004-09-25 12:18:43 UTC
Does this happen with an actual fluxbox we have in the tree? Please give fluxbox 0.9.10-r3 a go, fluxbox-cvs is kinda erratic...
Comment 4 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-25 17:35:12 UTC
The only difference between 6.8.0 and 6.8.0-r1 is a security patch to libXpm. Unless your problem's related to XPM images, I doubt that theory.
Comment 5 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-16 16:43:37 UTC
I'm using Fluxbox from the tree, same issue. I went from xorg 6.7 to 6.8.0-r1 and I freeze up pretty good, I'm assuming same issue. Gave me an odd display corruption around the cursor the second time I tried it. If it's a display issue, I'm using DRM on an Intel Extreme chipset on a Centrino laptop.

Hm, ok, since this is happening with -cvs and our packages, could one of you please report this upstream and see if they have any insight?
