Bug 651486 – x11-misc/sddm not allowing password immediately after boot

After recent updates sddm does not allow typing of a password immediately after a cold boot or warm reboot. sddm login comes up on all monitors but the password box is dead. Cannot click in it to make it active. Mouse cursor works (or at least moves around the screen. Keyboard works and will take me to the console. Restarting xdm in the console (/etc/init/d/xdm restart) returns me to the sddm login which now works fine.

This started 2-3 days ago. My machine is mostly stable, gentoo-sources-4.15.11, nvidia. I have not intentionally made any big changes recently. The machine is up to date.

At times past this was sometime fixable by hot-plugging USB mouse and keyboard. At this time that does not have any effect.

This appears to me to be either a KDE or SDDM issue. On my machine the login theme had been set to Elarun. Trying out the other two I have available (Breeze and Maldives) they both work fine. Setting it back to Elarun it fails again.

I'll use Maldives for now. If anyone focuses on this bug report in the future please get in touch and I'll test again.

If it is not happening with Breeze theme then it is clearly not related to KDE. Can you reproduce the issue with latest stable SDDM?
