Should/could we add this to ~masked mod_php-5 while it's still young?  Or maybe, conditionalise SRC_URI to include this (say with +contribs, +experimental, ...)?
This patch is quite a performace boost on some arches, and could use the testing ;-)

A couple weeks/a month.  It's still in development, but will likely reach the 5_1 dev branch next week, if there are no problems.

I don't trust it...
I'd say it can wait till PHP-5.1*.
or if it gets officially backported and in the upstream 5.0 series, I've got no objections to that then.
