Gentoo won't be patching every ebuild to support hacks. If you want hacks, you're on your own. > The "Applications" menu entries cannot be easily edited by right-clicking.
You can use x11-misc/menulibre and/or copy desktop files from /usr/share/applications to ~/.local/share/applications and/or edit them, possibly using an intermediate bash script. That's what I do to customize the way google-chrome and qpdfview start.
