gcc-3.4.1 can't compile emu10k1-0.20a-r6
with gcc-3.3.4 - no problem

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge emu10k1
Actual Results:

OK, a patched revision is in Portage.
A pity I only have 2.6 systems, so I could only patch the utilities, not the driver itself. Anyway, the error message you reported here is gone...
