Description Patrick Lauer gentoo-dev 2004-09-20 06:26:34 UTC
On my system, udev fails to create the /dev/md[0-9] devices for the md driver, thus not allowing me to create a Raid.

mknod /dev/md0 c 9 0 should create md0, but then mkraid -V says:
cannot determine md version: 6.
and exits. I assume that this is udev-related since it used to work on devfs systems and the md driver loads without problems

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge udev raidtools
2. mkraid -V
3.

Actual Results:
The /dev/md[0-9] devices were missing

Expected Results:
mkraid should have initialised the raid devices

md is not sysfs-aware, MAKEDEV md creates the missing device nodes.

The documentation is quite lacking, so it took me some time to track that down.
