The .keep is something Portage places to make sure it doesn't delete the directory when it finds out it's empty. I don't know if .keep is still needed by Portage (could be a remnant) but you shouldn't be scared by this file. Actually, during the installation of Gentoo you shouldn't notice this (unless you do a listing of the directory contents). I don't think it is necessary to explain .keep as it's not relevant and I want to keep the first chapter of the Gentoo Handbook about installation-related aspects only. |
