You (kindly) explain how to use fdisk to partition the hard-drive. I planned to have a separate partition for /home but found a .keep in the directory /mnt/gentoo/home after creating the partition.

So I skipped mounting that partition, hoping I can do it later. 

It should be simple and helpful to point out the meaning of the .keep file.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Read the Handbook
2. Insert minimal live cd in PC
3. Follow instructions in the Handbook 

Actual Results:  
Puzzled when encountering .keep file.

Expected Results:  
Give example with several partitions, provide more details.

The .keep is something Portage places to make sure it doesn't delete the directory when it finds out it's empty. I don't know if .keep is still needed by Portage (could be a remnant) but you shouldn't be scared by this file.

Actually, during the installation of Gentoo you shouldn't notice this (unless you do a listing of the directory contents).

I don't think it is necessary to explain .keep as it's not relevant and I want to keep the first chapter of the Gentoo Handbook about installation-related aspects only.
