Not sure what is wrong here. I've tried with MAKEOPTS=-j1, but for some reason it fails to link at some point.

Does not look like ld wrote anything to stdout/err at all. Could it be an OOM? does dmesg hint at what gone wrong?

I'm not sure, I think there was nothing reported in dmesg. Currently re-running it to double check...

In case of oom, you may want to checkout bug #623156 for fixes for the increased memory consumption, or chroot from a more powerfull machine via qemu-static.
