Hello,

for about 2 or 3 days emerge wants to install the above, old kernel
version, even though v4.12.* and v4.14.* are already installed.

Even installing it temporarily and removing it thereafter, the command
emerge -c -v -p would remove both newer packages.
Looks like the second number is compared lexically instead of being
compared numerically?

After removing the above, older kernel the command
emerge -DNuv -p world would like to install the old kernel again.
