Um, how about a little more detail?  Which version are you referring to?  What 
exactly is the problem?

The older Hylafax ebuilds (pre-4.2.0) should have a DEPEND on metamail, however, 
the latest 4.2.0 ebuild uses sharutils for MIME handling.  If sharutils doesn't 
handle everythign correctly, you can still use metamail instead.

I send a sample patch for use with mail, the script bin/notify use mimencode for send pdf or ps in a mail.

I have seen the pagina of installacion, cvs, and reviewed all the sources of hylafax and I have not found any reference to sharutils.
However if that I have found it for mimencode of metamail.  http://www.hylafax.org/howto/install.html#ss2.2 requests metamail or uuencode 

in /var/spool/fax/bin/notify and pollrcvd really uses mimencode.
I believe that metamail it is required for send and notification by email

Alrighty then, I'll take a look at it this week (since I think there'll be a new 
Hylafax ebuild anyway).  I guess I need to look more closely at upstream and 
other changes before I let them slide through...

Try the 4.2.1 ebuild on for size.
