touche salesman, fixed in cvs, thanks reopened and cc'ed docs-team: The variables section in http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/devrel/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=1 contains the same statement. today i found out that it must be assigned to devrel. ("Doc devs can't fix anything in there." #61882)
