Hi,

The subversion ebuild uses the:
sed -i -e EXP FILE
construct.

This constructs fails on Mac OS X 10.2.8, no -i option.

There is a /usr/lib/portage/bin/dosed that I think should be used.

Please paste the output of `emerge info`. You need to have at least 51_pre20 of portage. sed is default to GNU sed (aliased, see default-macos-10.3/{profile.bashrc,packages}, so this shouldn't  be a problem. If you installed the latest portage and still have  the problem, please reopen the bug.
