I can't emerge portage on osx
libsandbox.c canonicalize.c and getcwd.c all fail for various reasons.. see forums link

Which version did you try to install? Gentoo for Mac OS X doesn't
support <=portage-2.0.50. You could install one of 51_pre17,
51_pre20 or 51_pre23.

pre20 worked fine =)
but etc-update bever does anything, just scans and then says nothing to be done, even though evertime i emerge after that it still says X files need to be updated

etc-update doesn't support Mac OS X yet. Please upgrade portage
to >=51_pre23 (_pre24 and _rc1 have been added) and apply etc-update
patch available at bug #60721.
