Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.follow the handbook for stage 1
2. then do bootstrap.sh
3. then you see the error at patching bindutils

Actual Results:  
bootstrap.sh stopped

Expected Results:  
going on with bootstrapping

Tried to do a stage 1 install today and it consistently fails in the bootstrap
trying to patch binutils. I emerged the same package on another system (did the
same patch) and it didn't have any problems.

Looks like 63359 is the same as this bug, but more complete.

Provisory solution | echo ">=sys-devel/binutils-2.14.90.0.8-r1" >> /etc/portage/package.mask

You can unmask that now. It's fixed in the tree.
