Hi, I'm filing this bug because the profile located at /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2004.2/gcc34/2.6 is missing several key things, like make.defaults, etc... is this by design or a bug? I was led to believe on #gentoo-portage it's a bug so I'm filing it.

I would add that even the 2004.3 release makes the link the /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-2004.3 instead of the cascading profile ...

not sure when this was filed, make.defaults exists for months now, thought it existed in september, closing, it worked last time i used it, and it isnt even needed anymore, just left in there to not break people's boxes if they still use it :)
