I'm using sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-4.9.34 and noticed that while wifi _appears_ to be connected, any attempt to resolve addresses would time out. I'd also get temporary failures in name resolution errors from python scripts.

When this happens, there's corresponding message in dmesg:

[23547.606905] wlp3s0: AP 2c:4d:54:6b:e7:10 changed bandwidth, new config is 2412 MHz, width 1 (2412/0 MHz)

I found similar bug reports in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=197014 and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=981445#c15 . Changing router config like in that last report to restrict to 20MHz seems to work for me.

The router is ASUS RT-AC51U , firmware version 3.0.0.4.380_3625-geb2b179 .

If you need further info or some experiments, please just let me know. Even though I have a workaround, it'd be cool to find and fix the root cause.
