Description Kalle Richter 2017-06-04 14:38:38 UTC
Following the [PPC Installation handbook](https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:PPC/de) I noticed that it's hard to set the keymaps to a german layout. It's confusing to check `ls /usr/share/keymaps/i386` because I'm dealing with PowerPC instructions and that's worth mentioning in a half sentence.

Furthermore the selection of keyboard maps appear arbitrary organized in directories `amiga`, `atari`, `i386`, `includes`, etc. containing different number of layouts for different countries. It's time consuming to figure out that the desired layout isn't available. More clarity and a way to check quickly whether the desired layout is available would be appreciated.

Maybe that's a particularity of the iMac G4 PowerMac6,1 I'm using, but then it'd still be nice to get this fixed for everybody.

Thank you for your suggestion for improvement.
I suggest to make the changes in the wiki, or the talk page in the wiki. You can save your contribution directly there and we do not need a bugticket.

I don't know how it works. I'm using the default US layout until I get to start sshd, but that's a workaround only.

Ok, but I'd like to get this fixed for everyone instead of just me.
