Have tried two versions of kodi and of mesa any version of mesa over mesa-17.0.6 causes a crash on startup with a dmesg error 
kodi.bin[22841]: segfault at 12c ip 00007f12637205fa sp 00007fff8a5a8000 error 4 in i915g_dri.so[7f1263261000+962000]

As well the kernel has also changed a few times during this process. versions 4.11 to 4.11.3

All versions of kodi have worked on mesa-17.0.6

Are you using amdgpu-pro?

Also, can you please rebuild kodi and mesa so they can provide backtraces, then run Kodi again and provide the backtrace? https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Quality_Assurance/Backtraces

switched to classic from gallium in mesa
