It's my second time to try gentoo and I lost the first time with no problem about "bootstrapping the system" but gcc segfault when I did "emerge system". This time I started again from the beginning and did follow every step in the handbook, failed again. it's a little bit discouraging. Could anybody give me some clue on how to solve this? BTW, my machine is IBM/T40 with 768M RAM, 30G HDD, WinXP installed in /dev/hda1. I have disabled the legacy floppy support in BIOS and stay with default IRQ assigned values (11), and let linux do the IRQ sharing stuff. I set the USE="cjk -cups -gnome -kde -qt" in /etc/make.conf
