Description Andres Järv 2004-08-26 13:57:15 UTC
There should be a warning in the modutils ebuild, that if you dont recompile module-init-tools, you will lose the functionality of all modules the next time you reboot. Because some users(including me) really just don't know that i was supposed to do that the first time i upgraded modutils. The result is not working modules, possibly no network connection, and lots of headache. So there should be some warning after the compile!

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. compile new modutils
2. reboot
3. cry out of misery

I was really surprised why it did't work ...
after updating to modutils-2.4.27 my module-init-tools (i.e. modules-update) stopped working:
###########################
# modules-update
depmod: QM_MODULES: Function not implemented
###########################
Had to reemerge them ( module-init-tools), afterwards it worked again.

Would propose to edit the ebuild file to add a "emerge module-init-tools" or somehow after the compilation of modutils (cause when "emerge world" you won't see the warning msg...and then the prob will appear)
...as a first resolution...
