emerge of epic4 (also 5) is done successfully.
after emerge it's impossible to connect to any irc server. it's impossible also to connect from command line by specifiing /server command. 

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge epic4
2. epic nick irc_server


Actual Results:  
*** I can't find your mailbox.
*** Connecting to port 6667 of server nextra.irc.sk [refnum 0]
Hostname lookup for [nextra.irc.sk:6667] failed: temporary failure (2)
*** Unable to connect to port 6667 of server nextra.irc.sk: [-5] The hostname
does not resolve
*** Sorry, cannot connect.  Use /SERVER to connect to a server


Expected Results:  
connect to irc server

compile variables:

but if I disable perl via USE="-perl" emerge epic4, program runs correctly

Works fine here, both with and without USE=perl. I'm currently not able to reproduce your error.

If you can reproduce on a recent version ( I used epic4-2.2 ) please re-open.  Otherwise it just looks like your box might have had some other issues.
