Description Devon Miller 2004-08-26 08:29:30 UTC
Background: I have both modutils and module-init-tools installed as I need to be able to boot both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels.

Last night when I ran emerge -u system, it updated modutils to modutils-2.4.27 and installed it *over* module-init-tools-3.0-r2. This rendered my 2.6 kernel unusable as modprobe spewed QM_MODULES not implemented messages.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =modutils-2.4.26
2. emerge module-init-tools
3. emerge -u modutils

Actual Results:
Step 2 moves modprobe & friends to modprobe.old, etc.

Step 3 installs modutils over module-init-tools leaving the system with the
modutils-2.4.26 modprobe in 'modprobe.old' and the modutils-2.4.27 modprobe in
'modprobe'.

Now module support is a 2.6 kernel is disabled.

Expected Results:
Step 3, the installation of modutils should have detected that module-init-tools
was installed and should have installed the programs (lsmod, insmod, modprobe,
etc) as *.old
