So MediaWiki has this feature that every time I get notification for some wiki page edit, it ceases to notify me unless I visit the page again. I don't see anything in preferences to disable that. I find it very cumbersome and completely a non-feature.

When I'm skimming through mail and seeing multiple edits, I have to: a. check that I'm logged in, b. open every single one of them even though the changelog note delivered in e-mail fully satisfies me. This is cumbersome and can be trouble when I'm low on memory, considering how broken memory handling is in modern browsers.

Now, the fun starts when I'm checking mail on the phone. Since per bug #575534 our thoughtful webdesigner decided to completely disable user controls on small screens, I am not able to sign in there and therefore check off the notifications. So I practically have to revisit all those mails again later at a PC to mark them read.

Currently, the last item can be dealt with by visiting a Special page.. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Special:Notifications. This works the same on all browsers.

We are about to upgrade the wiki to a new version and hopefully this will make things a bit easier for you. The skin has not yet been updated to allow XS editing, but that will be reviewed in the near future. The new version will allow you to see all Notifications and allow you to mark them as read at any time.

I believe this bug is now long obsolete. The notification system in MediaWiki is now much better than it used to be and can be managed through the special page Brian linked previously.

Please reopen and let us know if your issue is still not resolved at this point. Thank you.
