Have you *read* the VOSTROM license?
Comment 2 Alessandro Barbieri 2017-04-08 11:59:19 UTC
I've read it but IANAL, this book

Intellectual Property and Open Source: A Practical Guide to Protecting Code
Van Lindberg "O'Reilly Media, Inc.", 2008 ISBN 1449391109, 9781449391102

consider the license free

Debian an Fedora too, what is wrong with Gentoo?
Comment 3 Hanno Böck gentoo-dev 2017-04-08 12:01:47 UTC
I read the license and I also don't see why it should be nonfree. Seems one of the usual permissive licenses. (We're never happy when people make up their own licenses and would prefer if they choose something "default", but an unusual license doesn't make it nonfree.)

Jeroen, can you please explain why you think this license is problematic?
Comment 4 Ulrich Müller gentoo-dev 2017-04-08 13:57:32 UTC
Clause 7 may be problematic:

7. no permission is granted to distribute, publicly display, or publicly
perform modifications to the Distribution made using proprietary materials
that cannot be released in source format under conditions of this license;

Not sure what this implies. Are you allowed to distribute the program if your network router has proprietary firmware?
