Currently, we have the following explanations:

  /var: Program generated data
  /var/lib: General application generated data

The FHS has better description for those and we should improve the text based on that, and also remember to update the quizzes. Something like the following sounds better to me:

  /var: Variable data files that include logging, administrative, temporary and persistent application generated data
  /var/lib: Holds the state information pertaining to an application.
