The architecture detection used by upstream has changed from version 0.22 to 0.24.
It is now using the architecture of the kernel rather than that of the python binary.

The bug has already been reported upstream:

As upstream suggests, this works fine if you use setarch or linux32 to change the machine personality in the chroot environment.
