Description reillyp 2004-08-16 19:03:38 UTC
emerged gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8 and installed on thinkpad T42. "shutdown -h now" now fails to completely shutdown the laptop - have to pull battery pack. Worked fine with gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r14. Failed both with a build using oldconfig (the 2.6.7-r14 config) and later hand-modifying that config.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8 on thinkpad T42
2. Boot up.
3. run "shutdown -h now" as root.

Actual Results:
Appears to shut down, but still generates heat and power button will not start
up the machine. Have to pull and re-seat the battery to be able to boot again.

Expected Results:
Completely shut down the computer (S5 state?)

Shuts down correctly in gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.8-r1.

Thanks for keeping us informed.

On my IBM Thinkpad T21 kernel (gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8) turns off ACPI support because of old BIOS (from 2000). It tells me "use acpi=force".
