vmnet patch for kernel 4.9+
I am fairly certain these patches work correctly as I have been using them for a few weeks with no issues. Please attach the build log. Are those patches recommended by upstream? I hand patched for 4.9.0 but for 4.9.1 the 308.1.1 version in the vmware overlay builds and runs fine. Created attachment 459420 [details]
build.log
Attached build.log.
Not provided upstream. I wish VMWare would be proactive and provide patches for new kernels, but they typically only provide kernel build updates in their releases, so it may take months before they do so.
> Are those patches recommended by upstream?
Certainly not because this patch set far from complete. There is more of this get_user_pages() stuff in vmci module.
NOTE: This Bug is about "unstable" : ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" (Harris Landgarten from comment #5) (who, AFAIK, is also on "~amd64"): > I hand patched for 4.9.0 but for 4.9.1 the 308.1.1 version in the vmware > overlay builds and runs fine. Currently, we are @ 4.9.36 for latest longterm. REFERENCE: Bug 616958 : 12.5.7 version bump Current [Overlay] already includes: app-emulation/vmware-modules-308.5.7:0 To me, this bug seems to be FIXED / OBSOLETE. VMware Products have been removed from Main Portage Tree during Nov-2017. Further development has been relegated to [vmware] Overlay. Situation as of today, 30-Nov-2017: Workstation : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 634770 Player : stable in [vmware] = 12.5.8 / released = 14.0.0 : Bug 639162 Modules : stable in [vmware] = 308.5.8 / released = 329.0.0 : Bug 634862 Tools : stable in [vmware] = 10.1.6 / released = 10.1.15 : Bug 634854 |
