Description Jory A. Pratt 2004-08-11 16:38:17 UTC
if a stable user runs a 2.6.x kernel the current stable build of nvidia wont work due to compatibility issues. I recommend we unmask the 5336 ebuilds to correct this block that is in place right now.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
nvidia module wont load if using a 2.6.x kernel with current stable build.

the more up2date the kernel gets the more we need to keep on the driver module
updates. 5336 has been in testing for a while now and should be ready to unmask
for all users.

The only thing I have against this is that all drivers < 6106 cause lockups (ir)regularly with the pci/search.c:167 issue... However this is an extremely valid point...

Im going to mark 53* stable unless someone strongly has good reason not to...

If someone has good reason for me to mark 6111 stable as opposed to 53* I'll listen to that aswell...

Monday 00:00 (Midnight) UTC is my deadline.

the 61* version has the 4k stack support that is only true advantage of it but it is also having issue with opengl when any application tries to run opengl. I would strongly vote against 61* unless it is the only option.

Follow discussion on the other bug... but 5336 has been marked stable.
