Description aditsu 2016-11-23 22:03:01 UTC
NoMachine (https://www.nomachine.com/) is a proprietary remote desktop server & client based on the NX protocol, and provides an efficient way to access the current X session remotely. I've been using NoMachine in Gentoo for about a year and it's working quite well, although they don't support Gentoo very explicitly. Still, they've recently fixed an issue that prevented it from working with KDE 5 in Gentoo and Slackware.

Some installation notes:
- download the tar.gz version for the corresponding arch
- extract in /usr (it has its own NX directory); it may be possible to install it elsewhere too, refer to the included readme file
- run "nxserver --install redhat" (yes, redhat)
- there may be some errors about rc.d dirs not found; the installation succeeds nevertheless
- if everything goes well, a "!m" icon appears in the system tray
- it installs a service called nxserver, which can be started/stopped with rc-service
