What we did at Sabayon: https://github.com/Sabayon/for-gentoo/commit/1485dca5082d510bdcad73e45461896003bbe9ef

The patch here works as expected, bug seems to afflict just x11-misc/shared-mime-info-1.7 and the patch don't seems to bring problems for older versions of shared-mime-info, but instead adds support for the new version.
