I guess this commit[1] was an accident. Probably due to the corresponding last rite [2] which included a few other firmware packages. linux-firmware was listed as a possible replacement for them.

Yeah, bad copy/paste as I was ensuring the firmware file was indeed provided by linux-firmware :S
